Georges Picard (1857-1946) | Romance under the blossom tree


Georges Gabriel Picard, dit Georges Picard was a French painter🎨  and illustrator.
He studied under Jean-Léon Gérôme🎨 and was also the protégé of the artist Albert Besnard.
For many years, he exhibited at the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts and was also its Treasurer.
Picard was commissioned to paint murals for the Casino at Monte Carlo, the French Embassy at Vienna, the Petit-Palais in Paris and most important of all, the Hotel de Ville in Paris.


He was commissioned to decorate the Lobau Gallery, which directly links the two entrance rooms. This most important work was in the making from 1892-1898 and Picard painted the cupolas, pendants and the vertical panels for this Salon.
The subject of these aforementioned murals was to trace the successive stages of humanity's spirit in its quest for the better life culminating in the birth of Paris, a light to guide its way.
It was to be the embodiment of the Era, of progress and the glory of the city.
Picard painted in oil and pastel and particularly favoured paintings of children, flowers, orchards and figures.
Picard's work was well received and appreciated for its harmony of colour and vitality of line.
As an illustrator Picard illustrated, 'Sigurd' and the Fairy Tales of Perrault.






Georges Gabriel Picard, dit Georges Picard, (nato il 23 dicembre 1857 a Remiremont (Vosgi), e morto il 25 gennaio 1943 a Yzeures-sur-Creuse (Indre-et-Loire), è stato un pittore ed illustratore Francese🎨.
Ha studiato con Jean-Léon Gérôme🎨 ed è stato anche il protetto dell'artista Albert Besnard.
Per molti anni ha esposto alla Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts ed è stato anche il suo tesoriere.
Picard fu incaricato di dipingere murales per il Casinò di Monte Carlo, l'ambasciata francese a Vienna, il Petit Palais a Parigi e, soprattutto, l'Hotel de Ville a Parigi.


Gli fu commissionato di decorare la Galleria Lobau, che collega direttamente le due sale d'ingresso. Quest'opera più importante fu realizzata tra il 1892-1898 e Picard dipinse le cupole, i pendenti ed i pannelli verticali per questo salone.
L'argomento di questi murali sopra menzionati era quello di tracciare le fasi successive dello spirito dell'umanità nella sua ricerca della vita migliore che culmina nella nascita di Parigi, una luce che guida la sua strada.
Doveva essere l'incarnazione dell'Era, del progresso e della gloria della città. Picard dipinto a olio e pastello e particolarmente favorito dipinti di bambini, fiori, frutteti e figure.
Il lavoro di Picard è stato ben accolto e apprezzato per la sua armonia di colori e la vitalità della linea. Come illustratore Picard illustrò "Sigurd" e le Fiabe di Perrault.
