Lord Byron | Apostrofe all'Oceano / Apostrophe to the Ocean, 1818

Pablo Neruda | La Regina / The Queen / La Reina

Io ti ho nominato regina.
Ve n’è di più alte di te, di più alte.
Ve n’è di più pure di te, di più pure.
Ve n’è di più belle di te, di più belle.
Ma tu sei la regina.

Pedro Salinas | Svegliati. Il giorno ti chiama.. / Wake up. Day calls you..

Svegliati. Il giorno ti chiama
alla tua vita: il tuo dovere.
A nient’altro che a vivere.
Strappa ormai alla notte
negatrice e all'ombra
che lo celava, quel corpo
di cui è in attesa, sommessa,
la luce, nell'alba.

Pier Paolo Pasolini: Solitudine

bisogna saperlo fare senza accorgersene; da sedersi non c’è;

Theodor von Holst | The Bride, 1842

Born in London in 1810 to Latvian parents who had recently emigrated from Riga, Theodor Richard Edward von Holst (3 September 1810 - 14 February 1844) came to occupy a unique position in British art, providing the link between earlier Romantic artists and the Pre-Raphaelites.
After studying with Henry Fuseli at the Royal Academy, and encouraged by Thomas Lawrence, von Holst went on to produce illustrations to Goethe’s Faust, Fouquet’s Undine and Dante’s Inferno.
Working mainly in isolation, the artist only achieved recognition towards the end of his short career with his large prize-winning biblical composition The Raising of Jairus’s Daughter 1841 (now lost), and a series of female heads that included The Bride, his most popular painting.

Di tutti i Suoni sparsi nell'aria,
Nessuno mi Prende
Come quell'antico brano fra i Rami -
Quella Melodia senza fraseggio -
Permessi agli Dei, e a me -

Michelangelo Buonarroti | Sculpture

Michelangelo's (1475-1564) earliest sculpture was made in the Medici garden near the church of San Lorenzo; his Bacchus and Sleeping Cupid both show the results of careful observation of the classical sculptures located in the garden.
His later Battle of the Lapiths and Centaurs and Madonna of the Stairs reflect his growing interest in his contemporaries.

Pablo Picasso | Sleeping peasants, 1919

Sleeping peasants, is the most potent of the small erotic paintings that is brilliantly coloured.
The restless, irregular rhythms mapped out by the contours of the tumescene limbs and ruckled drapery amount to a graph of love-making which has just occured, while the woman's thrown-back head and uncovered breast confirm her maenadic ancestry.
The ripe bodies nestled in the ripe crops implying some archaic fertility rite.
