Alfred Boucher (French sculptor, 1850-1934)

A French🎨 sculptor, Alfred Boucher (23 September 1850-1934), mentor to Camille Claudel🎨 and friend of Auguste Rodin🎨.

Born in Bouy-sur-Ovin (Nogent-sur-Seine), he was the son of a farmhand who became the gardener of the sculptor Joseph-Marius Ramus, who, after recognizing Boucher's talent, opened his studio to him.

He won the Grand Prix🎨 du Salon in 1881 with La Piété Filiale. He then moved to Florence for a long period and was a favourite sculptor of presidents and royalty such as George I of Greece and Maria-Pia of Romania.

He provided inspiration and encouragement to the next generation of sculptors such as Laure Coutan and Camille Claudel🎨.

The latter was depicted in Camille Claudel lisant🎨 by Boucher and later she herself sculpted a bust of her mentor.

Before moving to Florence and after having taught Claudel and others for over three years, Boucher asked Auguste Rodin🎨 to take over the instruction of his pupils.

This is how Auguste Rodin🎨 and Claudel🎨 met and their tumultuous and passionate relationship🎨 started.

Ever generous and philanthropic, he founded the studio La Ruche in Montparnasse in 1902 to help young artists.

Mentore di Camille Claudel🎨 ed amico di Auguste Rodin🎨, Alfred Boucher, (23 settembre 1850 -18 agosto 1934), è stato uno scultore Francese🎨.

Nato a Bouy-sur-Ovin (Nogent-sur-Seine), era il figlio di un bracciante che divenne il giardiniere dello scultore Joseph-Marius Ramus, che, dopo aver riconosciuto il talento di Boucher, aprì il suo studio a lui.

Vinse il Grand Prix🎨 du Salon nel 1881 con "La Pietà Filiale".

Successivamente si trasferì a Firenze per un lungo periodo e fu lo scultore preferito di presidenti e reali come Giorgio I di Grecia e Maria-Pia di Romania. Fornì ispirazione ed incoraggiamento per le future generazioni di scultori come Laure Coutan e Camille Claudel.

Quest'ultima fu raffigurata in "Camille Claudel Lisant🎨" di Boucher e più tardi lei stessa scolpì un busto del suo mentore.

Prima di trasferirsi a Firenze e dopo aver insegnato a Claudel e altri per più di tre anni, Boucher chiese ad Auguste Rodin di prendere in consegna l'istruzione dei suoi allievi.

Da qui Auguste Rodin e Claudel iniziarono il loro rapporto tumultuoso e passionale🎨.

Sempre generoso e filantropico, fondò lo studio La Ruche a Montparnasse nel 1902 per aiutare i giovani artisti.

Ottenne il Grand Prix🎨 de la scultura all'Esposizione Universale nel 1900.

Fu il fondatore della città degli artisti La Ruche a Parigi.

Morì a Aix-les-Bains, all'età di 84 anni.
