Ralph Hedley (1851-1913) | Pittore di genere

Ralph Hedley è stato un pittore, intagliatore ed illustratore realista, noto soprattutto per i suoi dipinti che ritraggono scene di vita quotidiana nel nord-est dell'Inghilterra.

Biografia

Nato a Gilling West vicino a Richmond, nel North Yorkshire, Ralph ei suoi genitori Richard e Anne Hedley si trasferirono a Newcastle upon Tyne intorno al 1850, sull'onda delle opportunità industriali.
All'età di circa 13 anni, fu apprendista di Thomas Tweedy nei suoi laboratori di intaglio, studiando contemporaneamente arte e design alla "Government school" di Newcastle, e frequentando corsi serali alla Life School sotto William Bell Scott.
All'età di 14 anni è stato insignito di una medaglia di bronzo dal Dipartimento di Arte e Scienza del governo.

Peter Brown (Pete the Street), 1967

Peter Edward Mackenzie Brown is a British Impressionist painter popularly known as "Pete the Street" from his practice of working on location in all weathers.
He is best known for his depictions of street scenes and landscapes. He loves working 'in the thick of it' painting the streets of Varanasi to Toronto and closer to home in Barcelona, Paris, London and his adopted home city of Bath.
He insists on working directly from the subject refusing to use photographic reference.

Leonora Carrington (1917-2011)

Leonora Carrington è stata una scrittrice e pittrice Britannica; gran parte della sua produzione si ascrive al periodo trascorso in Messico, dove visse quasi settant'anni.

Temi ed opere principali

Gran parte della produzione letteraria e pittorica di Leonora Carrington si inserisce all'interno di quella surrealista. Il surrealismo dava estrema rilevanza alla dimensione inconscia, al sogno, e allo stato onirico, visto come luogo dell'attività "reale" del pensiero dell'uomo.
La lettura psicoanalitica freudiana del sogno offriva ai surrealisti la possibilità di indagare un'altra dimensione, creando immagini libere, svincolate dalla ragione e dalla logica.
Quando Leonora comincia a scrivere e dipingere, si ispira quindi ad autori che avevano fatto della riflessione surrealista sul sogno, un tema letterario e pittorico, come ad esempio Virgilio, Dante, Chaucer, Shakesperare, Hoffmann, Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Schnitzler, Freud, Odillon Redon, Giorgio de Chirico, Magritte e Joan Miró.

Diana Armfield RA, 1920 | Centenarian painter of Flowers / Landscapes

Diana Armfield RA is a British painter who celebrated her 100th birthday on 11 June 2020. She was born on 11 June 1920.
Armfield is known for landscapes, and has also painted portraits, literary subjects and still lifes.
She has a particular interest in flower paintings, and is considered to owe much to the Sickert tradition.
She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and the Central School of Arts and Crafts. Armfield was elected as a Royal Academician in 1991.

Bernard Dunstan RA (1920-2017)

Bernard Dunstan studied at Byam Shaw School of Art in 1939 and subsequently at the Slade School of Fine Art, London from 1939-1941.
He went on to teach at the West of England School of Art in Bristol from 1946-1949, Camberwell School of Art from 1950-1964, Byam Shaw School of Art from 1953-1974, Ravensbourne Art College from 1959-1964 and City and Guilds of London Art School from 1964-1969.

Georgia Cox, 1975

Since graduating from Falmouth College of Arts in 1998, Bath based artist Georgia Cox has achieved a reputation for her paintings of intricate flower compositions using oil and gold leaf.
Patterning, repetition, texture and the highly detailed observation of natural forms have become the hallmark of her work. As well as the natural world, inspiration comes from armour, quilting, tiles and jewellery.

Harrold Clayton (1896-1979)

Harold Clayton was a British painter best known for his depictions of flower arrangements in ornate vases, painted with the detailed techniques and centered compositions of 16th-century Dutch and Flemish floral still-life painters like Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder.
Harold Clayton was born into a family of artists in London. He began studying at art school in Hackney at an early age.
After graduating with distinction, he moved to Harrow Art School and, once again, graduated with distinction.

Charles Ginner (Post-Impressionist painter, 1878-1952)


Charles Isaac Ginner CBE ARA was a Franco-British painter painter of landscape and urban subjects.
Born in the south of France at Cannes, of British parents, in 1910 he settled in London, where he was an associate of Spencer Gore and Harold Gilman and a key member of the Camden Town Group.

Early years and studies

Charles Isaac Ginner was born on 4 March 1878 in Cannes, the second son of Isaac Benjamin Ginner, a British doctor. He had a younger sister, Ruby (b. 1886; who became the dance teacher Ruby Dyer). He was educated in Cannes at the Institut Stanislas.
