Edward Okun (Polish painter, 1872-1945)


Edward Okuń è stato un pittore Polacco🎨 dell'Art Nouveau. Dipinse paesaggi, ritratti, copertine disegnate e riviste illustrate, tra cui la rivista tedesca "Jugend".

Okuń nacque nel 1872 in una famiglia nobile e rimase orfano presto. È cresciuto con i nonni dal lato materno. Dopo aver ereditato una grande fortuna, presto iniziò a prendere lezioni di disegno con grandi pittori. Nel 1891 studiò alla Scuola di disegno di Varsavia.
Dal 1891-1893 ha studiato sotto la guida di Isidoro Jablonski e Jan Matejko al Jan Matejko Accademia di Belle Arti.


Ha continuato i suoi studi a Monaco e Parigi. Nel 1897 Okuń andò a studiare con Simon Hollósy che fondò la colonia di artisti a Nagybánya, in Ungheria.
Per i successivi 20 anni visse a Roma e viaggiò anche a Sorrento, Amalfi, Capri, Venezia, Padova, Ravenna, Firenze e Siena.
Ha partecipato alla vita della colonia artistica polacca a Roma ed è stato co-fondatore della loggia massonica "Polonia".
Okuń tornò in Polonia nel 1921 e si stabilì a Varsavia.


Dal 1925 è stato professore alla School of Fine Arts.
Era un membro della Society of Polish Artists
Insieme ai suoi amici fondò una loggia massonica chiamata "Copernico".
È stato vicepresidente della Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts.
Durante l'apertura annuale del Salon Incentives ha assistito all'assassinio del primo presidente della Polonia, Gabriel Narutowicz, da Eligiusz Niewiadomski e con uno degli assistenti del presidente, catturò Niewiadomski.
Durante la seconda guerra mondiale visse a Varsavia. Dopo l'insurrezione di Varsavia, Okuń si trasferì a Skierniewice, dove morì nel gennaio del 1945.
















Edward Okuń (1872-1945) was a Polish🎨 Art Nouveau painter🎨 and freemason. He painted landscapes, portraits, designed covers and llustrated magazines, including the German magazine "Jugend".
  • Biography
Okuń was born in 1872 to a noble family and was orphaned early. He grew up with his grandparents on the maternal side.
After inheriting a large fortune, he soon began drawing lessons with great painters. In 1891 he studied at the Warsaw School of Drawing. From 1891-1893 he studied under the direction of Isidore Jablonski and Jan Matejko at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts.
He continued his studies in Munich and Paris.


In 1897 Okuń went to study with Simon Hollósy who founded the artists' colony in Nagybánya, Hungary.
For the next 20 years he lived in Rome and also traveled to Sorrento, Amalfi, Capri, Venice, Padua, Ravenna, Florence and Siena.
He participated in the life of the Polish art colony in Rome, and was co-founder of the Masonic lodge "Polonia".
Okuń returned to Poland in 1921 and settled in Warsaw.
From 1925 he was a professor in the School of Fine Arts.
He was a member of the Society of Polish Artists.
Together with his friends founded a Masonic lodge called "Copernicus".
He was vice-president of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts.


During the annual opening of the Salon Incentives he witnessed the assassination of the first president of Poland, Gabriel Narutowicz, by Eligiusz Niewiadomski and with one of the president's aides, caught Niewiadomski.
During World War II he lived in Warsaw.
After the Warsaw Uprising Okuń moved to Skierniewice, where he died in January 1945. | © Wikipedia
