Aleksandra Ekster | Pittrice Cubo-Futurista

Aleksandra Aleksandrovna Ėkster / Александра Александровна Экстер (1882-1949) è stata una pittrice, scenografa e costumista Russa e Francese, appartenente al movimento dell'Avanguardia russa.

Aleksandra Grigorovič nacque a Białystok, oggi in Polonia, ma allora provincia russa, da una colta famiglia dell'alta borghesia.

Suo padre era un ricco uomo d'affari ed ella ricevette un'educazione conforme al suo ceto ed al suo ambiente sociale apprendendo il francese ed il tedesco, e ricevendo anche lezioni private di disegno e di musica.

Seguì come uditrice, dei corsi alla Scuola d'Arte di Kiev.

Frank Morrison | Massachusetts

Nato nel Massachusetts poi portato dalla sua famiglia a vivere nel New Jersey presso un tenera età, Frank Morrison è stato allevato e ha trascorso i suoi anni formativi lì, an giovanotto affabile, precoce e curioso di cui curiosità tutto intorno a lui sembrava illimitato.

Poi, da preadolescente energico, lui era interessato ed entusiasmato dalle mode, dagli interessi e dalle attività giovanili che ha segnato il suo mondo: i d.j di quartiere con i loro followers e fans alle feste di quartiere, le colorate 'cartelline' dei personaggi locali che erano schizzato attraverso recinzioni, parchi ed edifici, ed i ragazzi "B" dalle giunture sciolte e ballerini di breakdance che animavano le scene delle feste del fine settimana.

In questa impostazione il suo mondo era improvvisamente pieno di possibilità e si convinse che lui, anche, potrebbe FARE questo!

Alan Giana | The edge of Fantasy

L'artista multimediale acclamato a livello internazionale Alan Giana è nato e cresciuto nel Connecticut. Una delle sue prime opere risale a quando Alan aveva solo quattro anni: con un pennarello cominciò a scarabocchiare sul muro.

Il padre di Alan è un noto artista di ceramica. Alan guardava spesso suo padre applicare smalti e diverse tecniche di pittura per creare i suoi capolavori. Durante i suoi anni di scuola Alan era sempre attratto dal disegno e dalla pittura.

Ha frequentato il college per studiare la progettazione grafica e la gestione aziendale. Con una laurea in gestione grafica, Alan ha iniziato la propria attività di illustrazione e progettazione nei primi anni '90 con la moglie Pamela.

Isabel Guerra (Spanish painter, 1947)

Guerra was born in Madrid and it seems her interest in painting was sparked at age 12 when someone gave her a box of oil. She is completely self taught and loves the great masters whom she has seen often in the Prado Museum in Madrid, especially Velázquez.

At 23 he entered the Cistercian monastery of Santa Lucia in Zaragoza and from that time has lived her life trying to combine her two vocations: painting and religious life.

Her style is hyper-realistic, her paintings seems to be real photographs and "something that caught my attention when I first knew her paintings is the large domain that she has of the colour and especially the handling of light".

She is a brilliant portraitist and paints mainly young women and children, but also still lifes and landscapes and her characters transmit a spirituality that is evident in their gestures and glances.

Frédéric Soulacroix (1825-1900)

Frédéric Soulacroix was a pupil of Ramney, Cornelius and of Dumont. He entered the School of Fine Arts on 22 September 1845 at the age of twenty and made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1849. Soulacroix’s subjects were taken from the French middle classes. He almost certainly created a special type of soubrette. Soulacroix along with Reggianini and Ricci dwelt lovingly on the richness of texture in the ladies dresses and in the upholstery and draperies.

Kevin Beilfuss, 1963

Kevin Beilfuss is an American painter based in Downers Grove, Illinois who created the beautiful paintings.

After graduating from Illinois State University and the American Academy of Art, Beilfuss set out on a free-lance illustration career which lasted thirteen years.

Working mostly in the editorial area of illustration, his work consisted mostly of paintings for book covers and magazines.

Some of his clients include: Penguin Publishing, Viking Press, Houghton Mifflin, Harlequin, Signs of the Times, Guideposts, Readers Digest and Golf Digest.

Jeff Faust, 1952

Artist Jeff Faust has fond memories of spending hours getting lost in art books that his parents kept round the house as a child.

Each page told a story, both about the artist themselves, and of their work and this fed his eager mind that to create art is not just an amazing ability to possess, but that it was also his calling.

He remembers looking at the work of Masters such as Picasso and Miró and being lost in their world as his own stories would unfold from each of their paintings.

Jeff Faust hopes viewers of his acrylic on canvas work can create their own stories when looking at his paintings.

"It often surprises me what collectors see in my work," he says. "My hope is that each piece can be looked at in very different ways by different people. It's more than just visual, it's a story to be told…a poem on each canvas".

Laura Robb, 1955 | Oklahoma

Laura Robb è cresciuta a Tulsa, Oklahoma ed è entrata alla scuola d'arte all'età di sedici.

Nel 1974, Laura si trasferì a New York City per studiare con Michael Aviano, e dopo essere tornata nel sud-ovest, ha avuto l'opportunità di ricevere critiche al suo lavoro dal maestro Richard Schmid.

Stephen Pan, 1963

Nato a Shanghai, Stephen Pan si inserisce nella società cinese nel momento di massimo splendore del potere della Guardia Rossa; era in atto la distruzione di tutto ciò che non era puramente cinese.

Pan aveva cinque anni, quando suo nonno, Bo Yin Pan, famoso per la calligrafia e la poesia, gli diede le prime lezioni di disegno e pittura.

All'età di 13 anni, Stephen Pan ha vinto il primo di una serie di premi nazionali per l'eccellenza artistica in Cina per i suoi dipinti ad olio splendidamente resi.

Pan ha iniziato la sua carriera di insegnante a Shanghai all'età di 20 anni e ha scoperto che i suoi giovani studenti erano desiderosi di studiare arte da lui.

Ivan Slavinsky (Russian painter, 1968)

Ivan Slavinsky is a contemporary artist born in Leningrad, Russia. As a son to an art historian mother and a well-known Leningrad painter-Dmitry Oboznenko, it could be said that Ivan was destined to be an artist from an early age.

In his own words: “I was about 5 years when I felt tired of making the same old stuff. I noticed a nice picture on the wall a reproduction of Raphael and decided to make a copy of it.

Jia Lu is an oil painter working in America, known for blending Asian and European imagery in her paintings, predominantly of women.

Jia Lu's works include Chinese ink paintings, oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, sculpture and prints.

Her early work strongly reflected the traditional aesthetics of her teacher Fan Zeng, but by the time she exhibited in Canada, she was critiquing new social developments, consumerism and power relations in China through a series of mixed-media self-portraits.
