Claude Monet | The Rose Bushes in the Garden at Montgeron, 1876

Claude Monet was commissioned to create this garden scene on the grounds of the textile merchant Ernest Hoschedé’s home in the Parisian suburb of Montgeron.

The artist disrupted the classically composed picture space by placing the blossoming bushes unusually close in the foreground.

This arrangement could be due to the purpose of the composition as a wall decoration that was to simulate a view into the landscape.

Woman with a Pearl Necklace in a Loge (or Lydia in a Loge) is an 1879 painting by American artist Mary Cassatt.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art acquired the painting in 1978 from the bequest of Charlotte Dorrance Wright.

The style in which it was painted and the depiction of shifting light and color was influenced by Impressionism.

This painting shows a view of the modern woman and is similar in style to Degas.

William-Adolphe Bouguereau | Temptation, 1880

Throughout the course of his life, French academic painter William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905) executed 822 known finished paintings, although the whereabouts of many are still unknown.

During his life, he enjoyed significant popularity in France and the United States, was given numerous official honors, and received top prices for his work.

As the quintessential salon painter of his generation, he was reviled by the Impressionist avant-garde.

By the early twentieth century, Bouguereau and his art fell out of favor with the public, due in part to changing tastes.

In the 1980s, a revival of interest in figure painting led to a rediscovery of Bouguereau and his work.

Angelica Kauffmann | Portrait Louisa Leveson Gower, 1767

Maria Anna Angelika Kauffmann RA (30 October 1741 - 5 November 1807), usually known in English as Angelica Kauffman, was a Swiss Neoclassical painter who had a successful career in London and Rome.

Remembered primarily as a history painter, Kauffmann was a skilled portraitist, landscape and decoration painter.

She was, along with Mary Moser, one of the two female founding members of the Royal Academy in London in 1768

Serhiy Reznichenko (Ucraina, 1968)

L'artista Serhiy Reznichenko / Сергій Резніченко è nato nella regione di Cherkassy, in Ucraina.

Si è laureato presso il Vira Mukhina State Art-Industrial College di San Pietroburgo, Federazione Russa, specialità - pittura monumentale.

È membro della Società nazionale ucraina degli artisti.

Dal 1989, Serhiy Reznichenko ha partecipato a più di cinquanta mostre in Ucraina ed all'estero.

Le opere dell'artista sono conservate nelle collezioni della pinacoteca di Lviv, del Museo Nazionale di Lviv, Lviv Palazzo delle Arti e Museo di arte contemporanea in Ucraina (Kiev).

Karl Brjullov (1799-1852) | Pittore Romantico

Il grande pittore Russo Karl Pavlovich Brjullov / Карл Па́влович Брюлло́в era figlio del pittore P.Brjullov e fratello di Alessandro Brjullov, il noto architetto che operò per diversi anni nel Sud Italia e che fu a sua volta ottimo ritrattista.

Karl Brjullov, artisticamente molto dotato, frequento' con molta passione l'Accademia delle belle arti a San Pietroburgo.

Nel 1823, assieme al fratello, decise di soggiornare all'estero per approfondire le proprie esperienze pittoriche. Dapprima, in Germania, si fece notare per aver dipinto i ritratti di due ministri bavaresi e di alcuni membri delle loro famiglie.

Nel corso dello stesso anno (1823) Brjullov scelse l'Italia come prossima tappa, soggiornando a Roma. Qui fisso' su tela molte opere riguardanti temi e scorci di vita italiana. Di particolare successo risultarono i seguenti quadri: "Mattina italiana", 1823, "Pomeriggio italiano" ed "Italiana e il raccolto dell'uva", 1827.

Nello stesso periodo esegui', con abile maestria, la fedele copia di un affresco di Raffaello che quest'ultimo aveva dipinto per il Vaticano, dal titolo "La scuola antica".

Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894)

Caillebotte nasce a Parigi nel 1848 dalla terza moglie di Martial Caillebotte, imprenditore di successo in campo tessile. Dalle due mogli precedenti, morte per malattia, erano nati tre bambini solo uno dei quali, Alfred, vive ancora alla nascita di Gustave.

Nel 1851 nasce il fratello René, che morirà all'età di 25 anni, e nel 1853 Martial (battezzato con lo stesso nome del padre), che sarà legato a Gustave da uno stretto rapporto affettivo.

Inizialmente Gustave segue studi giuridici, diplomandosi nel 1870.

Nel 1872, insieme al padre, compie un viaggio in Italia.

Particolarmente colpito dai colori del meridione, dipinge a Napoli - dove conosce il pittore Giuseppe De Nittis - almeno due dei suoi primi quadri.

L'amore per la pittura lo porta ad iscriversi all'École des Beaux-Arts, dopo aver brillantemente superato il concorso di ammissione nel 1873.

Larissa Morais

Born and raised in Moscow, Morais is influenced by everything in her life. Her brush creates a realistic impression as if it couldn't possibly be anything but a photo.

She views her subject matter as architecture.

She sees the subject and presents it in a way that is usually not seen from the naked eye.

Her favorite subject to paint is the human figure from which she brings a reality to the paintings where attention to detail is as strong as attention to the character of the model. In her artwork, we are in the company of beautiful men and women, intimately poised and positioned.

All her artwork is conceived from a sketch, which she later paints onto a large black canvas.

Her delicate technique is with very thin layers of oil paint, while using the black background for shadowing. She captures every detail of her subject. For her it is all there, she just uncovers it.

Henri Matisse was fascinated by the cultures of North Africa and the Middle East.

In 1903 he visited an Islamic art exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris; in 1910 he traveled to Munich for a major display of Islamic objects and then to Spain to see Moorish architecture.

He also collected brilliantly colored and richly ornamented textiles, pottery, and tiles.

It was, however, the physical experience of these lands that proved to have the greatest impact on Matisse's vision and creativity.

"Woman In A Purple Coat" or "The Purple Coat" is a painting by Henri Matisse from 1937.

It depicts Matisse's assistant Lydia Delectorskaya.

This painting is an example of Henri Matisse's mature decorative style.

Matisse depicts his model and companion of many years, Lydia Delectorskaya, in an exotic Moroccan clothing, surrounded by a complex of abstract design and exotic color.

This is an example of one of the final groups of oil paintings in Matisse's career, in 1950 he stopped painting oil paintings in favor of creating paper cutouts.

The ornamental embroideries of the blouse are actually the main topic here, as the painter showed great interest in all types of fabrics.

Matisse was moved by the graphic beauty of motifs in craftsmanship that he collected.

He conveys his exaltation, smoothing out details, streamlining lines and creating colour blocks, as the stylisation of the oak leaves central ornaments suggests it.

The blouse billows out, becoming pictorial space as much as metaphor.

Anna Razumovskaya | Romantic painter

Anna Razumovskaya is a graduate of the Russian State University For Arts, where she was awarded the distinction of high-class artist in 1991.

Figlio del famoso artista siberiano Valery Oktyabr, Denis Oktyabr è nato in una città russa Novoaltaisk per continuare la famiglia artistica tradizione.

Nel 1992 Denis ha terminato la Scuola per Artisti e nel 1997 si è diplomato Collegio Artistico di Novoaltaisk.

Jean Jacques Pradier (French, 1792-1852)

Jean Jacques Pradier, a French sculptor, belonged to a family which had left France after the revocation of the edict of Nantes, was sent to Paris while yet a boy, studied under the sculptor Lemot, and received from Napoleon a small pension.

He gained a go...ld medal when 21 years of age, and the next year obtained by his "Philoctetes at Lemnos" the great prize of sculpture, which entitled him to a residence of four years in Italy at the expense of the government.

At the exhibition of 1819 a gold medal was awarded to him, and in 1827 he was elected a member of the academy of fine arts, to fill the seat left vacant by his master Lemot.

Among the most admired of his works are "Psyche", the "Three Graces", "Gyparissus", "Venus and Cupid", "The Bacchante and the Satyr", "Phryne", La poesie legere and the two muses which adorn the fountain of Moliere in Paris, "Industry" in the Paris exchange, "Liberty" in the former chamber of deputies, "Phidias" in the Tuileries garden, and statues of saints in several Paris churches.

François Joseph Bosio (1769-1845)

Il barone François Joseph Bosio (Principato di Monaco, 19 marzo 1768 - Parigi, 29 luglio 1845) è stato uno scultore Francese che assurse ad una certa fama nel primo quarto del XIX secolo per i lavori commissionatigli da Napoleone e dal governo di restaurazione.

Biografia

Bosio ricevette una borsa di studio dal principe Honoré I per studiare a Parigi con il grande scultore Augustin Pajou.

Dopo il breve servizio nell'esercito rivoluzionario visse a Firenze, Roma e Napoli, offrendo sculture per le chiese sotto l'egemonia francese in Italia negli anni 1790.

Andrius Kovelinas

Andrius Kovelinas, pittore surrealista Lituano, dipinge la donna giocando con gli sguardi, le apparizioni, gli stati d'animo.

I suoi lavori sono tutti ad olio su tela, ma lo stile e la tecnica non sono per Andrius così rilevanti.

La preparazione - l'idea - è per lui essenziale e richiede molto tempo. Prima di iniziare un'opera su tela, Andrius si crea un disegno su carta.

Lui stesso dice di non essere in grado di creare un'opera velocemente. A volte per terminare un lavoro impiega anche 3 mesi. Il risultato è la bellezza e la perfezione estetica.

Filippo Baratti | Pittore orientalista

Filippo Baratti (1849, Trieste - 1936, Parigi) è stato un pittore Italiano, noto principalmente per le sue scene orientaliste.

Filippo Baratti nacque a Trieste, dove risiedette fino al 1868 per poi spostarsi a Torino e da lì a Parigi ed a Londra.

Si cimentò nella pittura di storia e nei soggetti orientali, ma si specializzò soprattutto nella pittura di genere e nelle vedute urbane, cogliendo con brio brani di vita contemporanea (Whitehall, 1884).

Horacio Cardozo (Argentine painter, 1968)

Horacio Cardozo ha studiato Architettura e Design all'Università di Buenos Aires e Filosofia all'Università Del Salvador.

Le sue capacità di disegno e la sua ammirazione per le belle arti, in particolare quelle del periodo rinascimentale, lo hanno portato ad esplorare una carriera nella pittura, dal 1987.

I dipinti ad olio di Horacio hanno raggiunto una tecnica di alto livello sull'iperrealismo, il tema ripetitivo dell'illuminazione eterea in toni caldi che emana un senso di pace e solitudine in tutta la collezione.
