In October, 1888 Gauguin arrived in Aries and moved in with Van Gogh, who was beside himself with excitement and dream of starting if not an artists' colony, at the very least a shared studio. Van Gogh had met Gauguin two gears previously and was in awe of the slightly older artist, whose own opinion of himself was greatly inflated.

The stay ended in disaster culminating in Van Gogh's self-mutilation, but prior to this the two artists had worked on similar projects, and Gauguin's influence can be seen on Van Gogh's paintings of this time.

Marcel Nino Pajot, 1945

Since he was a child, Nino Pajot developed his skills for drawing.

It is a gift from his mother, Reine Pajot-Védry, she was born in Vergt as well.

She is an artist who made remarkable sculptures.

As a self-taught artist, Pajot did enhance his abilities for painting rubbing shoulders with other artists.

Mary Qian, 1973

Mary Qian è un'artista di origine cinese che dipinge ritratti ad olio impressionistici da più di un decennio.

Originaria di Shanghai, ha conseguito il B.F.A. in Belle Arti eD Illustrazione presso la Brigham Young University nel 1998.

Entrambi i suoi genitori sono scienziati e i primi studi di Qian in Cina si sono concentrati sulle scienze.

Eppure, fin dai suoi primi anni, Qian aveva anche sentito una passione per la calligrafia tradizionale cinese: "È considerata una forma d'arte, e durante la scuola l'ho sempre fatta nel mio tempo libero, insieme alla pittura ad acquerello in stile cinese".

George McNeil (1908-1995)

Pioniere dell'espressionismo astratto della New York School, George McNeil ha tenuto oltre quaranta mostre personali durante la sua vita.

George J. McNeil nacque nel Queens, a New York, il 22 febbraio 1908, il figlio più giovane di una famiglia operaia cattolica irlandese.

Ha frequentato la Brooklyn Tech High School ed il Pratt Institute, che ha lasciato prima di conseguire la laurea.

Ha poi copiato opere al Metropolitan Museum of Art e ha frequentato i corsi della Art Students League, dove ha studiato con Jan Matulka nel 1931-1932.

David Park (American painter, 1911-1960)

David Park was a painter and a pioneer of the Bay Area Figurative School of painting during the 1950s. David Park was part of the post-World War II alumnae of the San Francisco Art Institute which was called the California School of Fine Arts at the time.

He revived an interest in figurative art, at first experimenting with still-abstracted forms that relied on color for their impact, dynamics and warmth. Park, along with Richard Diebenkorn and Elmer Bischoff, broke away from the philosophy of painting promoted by Clyfford Still, who taught at the Institute, forming what would later be called the Bay Area Figurative Movement.

Their influence may be seen in the work of later Bay Area Figurative School artists such as Paul John Wonner, Nathan Oliveira, Manuel Neri, Henry Villierme and Joan Brown.

David Hockney, 1937

David Hockney (Bradford, 9 luglio 1937) è un pittore, disegnatore, incisore, fotografo e scenografo Britannico.

Tra i più noti ed affermati artisti contemporanei, Hockney diviene uno dei principali esponenti della Pop art anglosassone dall'inizio degli anni sessanta. Viaggia spesso per gli Stati Uniti, si trasferisce poi stabilmente in California.

Fa dell'elemento figurativo il cardine della propria produzione artistica, che non si limita alla pittura. È infatti incisore, disegnatore e ritrattista, nonché fotografo ed autore di alcuni collage fotografici realizzati con le Polaroid.

Hockney è anche scenografo. Lavora all'Ubu re di Alfred Jarry, allestito al Royal Court Theatre di Londra nel 1963.
