"Paganini is an Italian artist🎨, and an Italian artist will be never sad or misanthrope. If he become that, it is the end of the art. In the character of Paganini there is nothing exalted.

His heart bits with a strong joy of living, it is attached to this land and to all it has to offer. However great the passion for his art is, he does despise nothing, not even things of little importance if they offer enjoyment […].

Paganini is one of the strangest, indeed baroque and certainly greatest phenomena, that cross land for over a century, but there is nothing mysterious about him. He his not like the stormy sea, but he is like the quiet lake.

But is not there that sky and earth reflect themselves with their millions of wonders?

A beautiful new world opened to us.

We thought to be transported into the joyfull sky of Italy, into scented woods of orange trees and myrtle trees; the eye full of bliss flew from the inflamed gulf to Vesuvio.

We listened to the happy dances of the Neapolitan fishermen, forever youngs, the secret love whisper of the noble mandolin: Paganini was playing!.

And when the sky darkened and the mountain quaked and the sea seethed, soon all was quiet and more resplendent than ever; and the dances and the songs started again. That’s why Italy is the garden of the Europe and its people are the happiest".

"Paganini è un artista italiano, e un artista italiano non sarà mai malinconico o misantropo. Se lo diventa, l’arte è finita. Nel carattere di Paganini non v’è nulla di esaltato, il suo cuore che batte con una robusta gioia di vivere è attaccato a questa terra e a tutto ciò che essa può offrire. Per quanto grande si manifesti la passione per la sua arte, egli non disprezza nulla, neanche le cose di poco conto, purché gli promettano godimento[…].

Paganini è uno dei fenomeni più strani, anzi barocchi e certamente più grandiosi che percorrano la terra da un secolo, ma di misterioso non c’è proprio niente in lui. Non somiglia al mare in tempesta, ma al chiaro lago pacato.

Ma non è proprio in questo che si riflettono cielo e terra con i loro milioni di meraviglie?

Un nuovo mondo e bello si aprì a noi. Ci credemmo trasportati sotto il cielo ridente d’ Italia, nei boschi fragranti di aranci e mirti; l’ occhio ebbro di beatitudine volò dal golfo infiammato della sera verso il Vesuvio.

Ascoltammo le danze allegre dei pescatori napoletani eternamente giovani, il segreto sussurro d’ amore del nobile mandolino: Paganini suonava!.

E quando pure si oscurò il cielo e il monte tremò e il mare ribollì, ben presto tutto tornò tranquillo e più che mai risplendente; e le danze e le canzoni ripresero. Poiché l’ Italia è il giardino d’ Europa e la sua gente è la più lieta".
