He obtained international success as a painter, sculptor and etcher.

All'apice della sua fama, il pittore e disegnatore fiorentino Sandro Botticelli (1445-1510) fu uno degli artisti più stimati in Italia.

Le sue graziose raffigurazioni della Madonna col Bambino, le sue pale d'altare e i suoi dipinti mitologici a grandezza naturale, come "Venere e Marte", godettero di un'enorme popolarità durante la sua vita.

Figlio di un conciatore, nacque Alessandro di Mariano Filipepi, ma gli fu dato il soprannome "Botticelli" (derivato dalla parola "botticello", che significa "piccola botte di vino").

Stefano Bruzzi, il Macchiaiolo fiorentini

Stefano Bruzzi (1835-1911) nacque a Piacenza il 1º maggio 1835 da Pietro, magistrato, e da Anna Pistoni.

Compì gli studi umanistici nella città natale, ma vi frequentò saltuariamente l'istituto d'arte Gazzola, dove insegnava Lorenzo Toncini, robusto pittore di figura.

Sono di quegli anni briose caricature che ne rivelano lo spirito vigile e acuto.

Solo verso la fine del 1854 si recò a Roma, dove studiò con Alessandro Castelli, che l'abituò a riprodurre attentamente il vero, a copiare gli alberi fibra per fibra, i rami foglia per foglia, con segno preciso, esatto, con una tecnica schietta, senza sotterfugi.

Filippo Palizzi (1818-1899) was an Italian painter🎨 of the Verismo style.

He moved to Naples in 1837 and enrolled at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts, but withdrew after a few months to attend the private school of the painter Giuseppe Bonolis.

Contact with his brother Giuseppe, who moved to France in 1844, introduced him to the painting of the Barbizon School.

Luigi Nono | Abandoned, 1903

Luigi Nono (Fusina, December 8, 1850 - Venice, October 17, 1918) was an Italian painter.

A young Nono entered the Accademia of Venice, then under the leadership of Pompeo Marino Molmenti. But by at the age of twenty years, he went to Polcenigo in the Friulian countryside, and he began to refine his style of landscape paintings, including Sull' Avemaria, Le sorgenti del Gorgazzo, Ritorno dai campi, and Verso sera.

He later returned to painting genre subjects of everyday life, and these paintings would prove to be his most influential.

Fausto Zonaro | La Sultana, 1920

Fausto Zonaro🎨 (18 September 1854 - 19 July 1929) was an Italian painter🎨, best known for his Realist style paintings of life and history of the Ottoman Empire.

Zonaro painted portraits, landscapes and historical paintings. It is claimed that "Zonaro was one of those who made a major contribution to the development of western style art in Turkey".

He was a prolific artist who created hundreds of works, most of which are of the Ottoman Empire. An exhibition of his work in Florence in 1977 "received wide acclaim in the art world".

The artist was trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, initially started up in painting with a historical theme, and soon abandoned it to devote himself to the representation of everyday life more carefree.

Désiré François Laugée (1823-1896)

Désiré François Laugée é stato un pittore Francese. Il suo lavoro comprendeva ritratti e scene classiche religiose o storiche.

I suoi grandi murali decorano ancora diverse chiese di Parigi. Ha anche realizzato paesaggi naturalistici e dipinti di genere di contadini, in particolare nell'ultimo periodo della sua vita.

Con i suoi quadri Laugée può essere considerato come precursore della scuola di Barbizon.

Ha ottenuto un grande successo durante la sua vita, anche se da allora il suo lavoro è stato ampiamente ignorato.

David Vinckboons (1576-1632) | Pittore del Secolo d'oro Olandese

David Vinckboons o Vingboons o Vinckeboons o Vingbooms è stato un pittore, incisore e disegnatore Olandese del Secolo d'oro.

Appartenne ad una famiglia di artisti di origine fiamminga. Il padre Philip Vinckeboons (m.1601) era un pittore di acquerelli su tela, arte praticata principalmente nella zona di Mechelen, e fu l'unico insegnante di David.

La famiglia si trasferì ad Anversa intorno al 1585. Probabilmente a causa delle guerre di religione nei Paesi Bassi meridionali, si spostò a Middelburg nel 1586 circa, e infine ad Amsterdam dove il padre Philip divenne un cittadino nel 1591.

Il 2 ottobre 1602 David sposò a Leeuwarden Agnieta van Loon, la figlia di un notaio, da cui ebbe dieci figli: sei maschi e quattro femmine. In seguito acquistò una casa ad Amsterdam in Sint-Antoniesbreestraat, come molti altri artisti e pittori.

Luca Carlevarijs | Pittore vedutista

Luca Carlevarijs (talvolta anche Carlevaris) (Udine, 20 gennaio 1663 - Venezia, 12 febbraio 1730) è stato un pittore Italiano, considerato il primo vedutista veneziano del Settecento ed il precursore del Canaletto e degli altri vedutisti veneziani.

Originario del capoluogo friulano Udine, il pittore si recò nel 1679 a Venezia.

La sua prima opera datata, del 1708, è un ciclo di 100 stampe che illustrano i monumenti veneziani.

Questo ciclo epocale segna l'inizio dell'interesse per il vedutismo.

Ivan G. Olinsky (1878-1962) | Impressionist painter

Ivan Gregorewitch Olinsky was a Russian-American painter and art instructor.

Olinsky was born in Elizabethgrad, Russia (now Kirovohrad, Ukraine).

After immigrating to the United States at the age of twelve he studied at the National Academy of Design, then worked for the American muralist George Willoughby Maynard, then for Elmer Garnsey, then for John La Farge in Boston until about 1906.

Olinsky became best known for his female portraits in a style that tended towards Impressionism.

William-Adolphe Bouguereau | Pietà, 1876

Upon its exhibition at the Paris Salon of 1876, William Bouguereau's monumental Pietà received unanimous praise from critics for its sincere emotion and poignant devotion (Doucet, Les peintres français, Paris, n.d., p. 164).

More than a century later, the painting remains one of the most moving interpretations of, not only the Life of Christ, but of man's personal tragedy as well.

The immediate inspiration for Pietà came not from Bouguereau's devout Christianity, but from the painful loss of his eldest son Georges who died on July 19, 1875 at the age of sixteen.

After spending several months overwhelmed by grief, Bouguereau sought to lift his spirits by fully immersing himself in his art.

Ulvi Liegi (Livorno, 1858-1939) anagramma di Luigi Moisé Levi, nasce da una benestante famiglia ebraica a Livorno, dove inizia a formarsi.

Dai primi anni ’80 è a Firenze, frequenta l’Accademia di Belle Arti, ma anche pittori "macchiaioli" come Giovanni Fattori, e dipinge dal vero.

Prosegue la formazione a Parigi (1886) e Londra, qui espone alla I Esposizione Italiana (Londra, 1888) e all’Esposizione Universale di Parigi (1889), ma il suo legame con Livorno si mantiene: nel 1886 è alla Prima esposizione di Belle Arti in Livorno ai Bagni Pancaldi.

Louis Picard was a French Symbolist painter of the end of the 19th.

The elder brother of Georges Picard, Louis Picard studied in Paris with Gérôme at the École des Beaux-Arts.

He exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1882 and was awarded a commendation in 1887.

He received a silver medal and the Légion d'Honneur during the Exposition Universelle of 1900, and a silver medal in 1890 at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts.

Claude Fossoux was born in Paris of a Savoyard father and a Parisian mother. After school, Claude obtained a grant to study at the Ecole Nationale Superieure Des Beaux Arts in Paris where he stayed for four years. During that time, he attended the studio of Chapelin-Midy and Pierre Caron. He was greatly influenced by the Impressionists🎨, particularly Sisley🎨, Pissarro🎨 and Renoir🎨.

Georges Gabriel Picard (1857-1946), dit Georges Picard was a French painter and illustrator.

He studied under Jean-Léon Gérôme and was also the protégé of the artist Albert Besnard.

For many years, he exhibited at the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts and was also its Treasurer.

Picard was commissioned to paint murals for the Casino at Monte Carlo, the French Embassy at Vienna, the Petit-Palais in Paris and most important of all, the Hotel de Ville in Paris.
