Abraham Pether (1756-1812)

Abraham Pether was an English🎨 landscape painter, recognised for his skill in depicting moonlit scenes.

He was also a talented musician, inventor, mathematician and philosopher.

He painted river and mountain scenery, with classical buildings, in a pleasing though artificial style, somewhat resembling that of Richard Wilson; but his reputation rests on his moonlight subjects, which attracted much admiration, and earned for him the sobriquet of "Moonlight" Pether.

Albert Gleizes | Impressionist / Cubist artists

Albert Gleizes (1881-1953) as a French artist, theoretician, philosopher, a self-proclaimed founder of Cubism and an influence on the School of Paris.

Albert Gleizes and Jean Metzinger wrote the first major treatise on Cubism, Du "Cubisme", 1912.

Gleizes was a founding member of the Section d'Or group of artists.

He was also a member of Der Sturm, and his many theoretical writings were originally most appreciated in Germany, where especially at the Bauhaus his ideas were given thoughtful consideration.

Hilda Rix Nicholas (1884-1961)

Hilda Rix Nicholas was an Australian artist.

Born in the Victorian city of Ballarat, she studied under a leading Australian Impressionist, Frederick McCubbin, at the National Gallery of Victoria Art School from 1902-1905 and was an early member of the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors.

Eugene de Blaas🎨 was born to Austrian parents. His father, Karl (1815-1894), teacher to him and his brother Julius became Professor at the Academy in Vienna and Venice, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

It was in Venice that Eugene de Blaas established himself as the leading painter of Venetian genre.

The golden Italian climate and the magnificent old stone facades had made Venice an essential stop on the Grand Tour since the early eighteenth century.

Past visitors had returned home with views and portraits; the late nineteenth visitor wanted more.

Olga Sacharoff (1889-1967)

Olga Nicolaevna Sacharoff was a Spanish artist of Russo-Persian origin associated with naive art and the Surrealist movement.

Olga Sacharoff (also spelled Sakhorova, Zakharova, or Zacharoff) was born in Georgia, which at the time was a part of the Russian Empire.

Her mother was of Persian origin. After studying at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, she visited Rome and traveled to Munich, where she came in contact with the German Expressionist movement.

Edmund Greacen (1876-1949)

Edmund William Greacen was an American🎨 Impressionist painter. His active career extended from 1905-1935, during which he created many colorful works in oil on canvas and board.

One of his works, a reproduction of which is at the Smithsonian Institution, was awarded the Salmagundi Club's Samuel T. Shaw Prize🎨 in 1922.

Kal Gajoum, 1968

Kal Gajoum was born in Tripoli. He was only ten years old when he entered his first art competition.

Later on he was introduced to oil painting and palette knife techniques by friend of the family who were artist in attendance at the Leonardo da Vinci school of art in Rome.

Vincent van Gogh | Daubigny's Garden, 1890

Van Gogh🎨 was a lifelong admirer of the work of Charles-François Daubigny🎨.

This celebrated landscape painter had lived in Auvers.

So when Vincent arrived in the village, he went to see Daubigny's home and garden as soon as he could. This is Van Gogh's first painting of the garden. He later made two larger ones on canvas.

Charles Courtney Curran (1861-1942)

Armand Guillaumin | Figure painting

Born Jean-Baptiste Armand Guillaumin (1841-1927) in Paris, he worked at his uncle's lingerie shop while attending evening drawing lessons.

He also worked for a French government railway before studying at the Académie Suisse in 1861.

There, he met Paul Cézanne🎨 and Camille Pissarro🎨 with whom he maintained lifelong friendships. While he never achieved the stature of these two, his influence on their work was significant.

Claude Emile Schuffenecker (1851-1934)

Émile Schuffenecker was a French🎨 Post-Impressionist artist, painter, art teacher and art collector.

A friend of Paul Gauguin🎨 and Odilon Redon🎨, and one of the first collectors of works by Vincent van Gogh🎨, Schuffenecker was instrumental in establishing The Volpini exhibition, in 1889.

His own work, however, tends to have been neglected since his death - and even worse, recent season campaigns in the media have reactivated resentments virulent since the late 1920s, when Schuffenecker was suspected to have imitated the work of other contemporary artists, among them, Van Gogh.

Pierre-Albert Marquet (1875-1947)

Albert Marquet was a French painter, associated with the Fauvist movement.

He initially became one of the Fauve painters and a lifelong friend of Henri Matisse.

Marquet subsequently painted in a more naturalistic style, primarily landscapes, but also several portraits and, between 1910-1914, several female figure paintings.

Albert Henry Fullwood (1863-1930)

Albert Henry Fullwood was an Australian artist who made a significant contribution to art in Australia.

He painted with Heidelberg School artists around Melbourne and moved with Tom Roberts and Arthur Streeton to live and paint at their camp in Sirius Cove, Sydney.

Fullwood was the Australian official war artist to the 5th Division in the World War I.

Fullwood was born in Hockely, Birmingham, son of Frederick John Fullwood, jeweller, and his wife Emma, née Barr.

Alexandre Altmann (1885-1950)

Alexandre Altmann was a Russian-French painter🎨.

Altmann was born to a poor Jewish family in Sobolevka near Kyiv in Ukraine in 1885. At the age of eleven, Altmann ran away to Odessa where he worked variously as a tailor, shoemaker, metalworker and grocery salesman.

The painter Vlas Mikailovich Doroshevich took Altmann under his wing after noticing Altmann’s draughtsmanship and thus encouraged his pursuit of art.

Albert Dubois-Pillet | Neo-impressionist painter

Albert Dubois-Pillet (1846-1890) was a French Neo-impressionist painter and a career army officer. He was instrumental in the founding of the Société des Artistes Indépendants, and was one of the first artists to embrace Pointillism.

Albert Dubois-Pillet was a career military officer and self-taught amateur painter, closely aligned with the Neo-impressionists. Though not formally trained, various Salons accepted his still lifes for display as early as 1877.

Auguste Veillon (1834-1890)

Louis-Auguste Veillon was a Swiss painter🎨, noted for his Orientalist works.

After obtaining a degree in Reformed theology in Lausanne, he joined François Diday at his studio in Geneva, where he primarily painted seascapes and mountain scenes from the Bernese Oberland.

In 1858, he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

While in Paris, he spent a considerable amount of time in the Louvre, copying the works of the masters, especially the 17th-century Dutch masters and the work of Claude Lorrain🎨.

German Aracil, 1965

Contemporary spanish artist pastelliste, German Aracil was born in Alicante. In 1985 he began his studies at the San Carlos School of Fine Art in Valencia, Spain.

Aracil's first one-man show was held in his home town of Alicante, followed in 1990 by exhibitions in New York's Liz Liberatore Gallery. Two years later he took part in the Art Miami International Art Fair.

Itzchak Tarkay (1935-2012)

Itzchak Tarkay was an Israeli artist. Tarkay was born in Subotica, on the Yugoslav-Hungarian border.

In 1944, Tarkay and his family were sent to the Mauthausen Concentration Camp, until Allied liberation freed them a year later.

In 1949, his family emigrated to Israel, living in a kibbutz for several years.

For over 35 years Annick Redor has accumulated awards🎨 and exhibitions, both in France and abroad.

French painter🎨 Annick Redor was born in Nantes.

She graduated from the School of Fine Arts, she studied the technique of old masters in the Paris studio, the year she lived in Russia, where interested in iconography, and then there was a period of travel in Europe and America, a six-month trip to Africa, more than a year lived in a remote village in Gabon, and finally decided to go own way in art and find your own handwriting brush.

Joseph Bail (1862-1921) | Genre painter

Joseph Bail was born in Limonest in the Rhone region of France. His father, Jean-Antoine Bail, was a genre painter influenced by the Dutch masters, and he focused his attention on depicting scenes from domestic life.

Bail received his early training from his father and later studied in the studios of Jean Léon Gêrome and Carolus-Durand, two of the leading figures of the Parisian Academy of Fine Arts.

Victor Gilbert (1847-1935)

Victor Gabriel Gilbert was a French painter🎨 mostly known for their Parisian scenes and portraying market scenes there.

He studied with Victor Adam (1801-1866) and subsequently with the Charles Busson (1822-1908).

In 1889 he was awarded🎨 a silver medal in the Societe Artistes Français, and a Bonnat prize in 1926, at the end of his career.
