Abraham Pether (1756-1812)


Abraham Pether was an English🎨 landscape painter, recognised for his skill in depicting moonlit scenes.
He was also a talented musician, inventor, mathematician and philosopher.
He painted river and mountain scenery, with classical buildings, in a pleasing though artificial style, somewhat resembling that of Richard Wilson; but his reputation rests on his moonlight subjects, which attracted much admiration, and earned for him the sobriquet of "Moonlight" Pether.

Albert Gleizes | Impressionist / Cubist artists


Albert Gleizes (1881-1953) as a French artist, theoretician, philosopher, a self-proclaimed founder of Cubism and an influence on the School of Paris.
Albert Gleizes and Jean Metzinger wrote the first major treatise on Cubism, Du "Cubisme", 1912.
Gleizes was a founding member of the Section d'Or group of artists.
He was also a member of Der Sturm, and his many theoretical writings were originally most appreciated in Germany, where especially at the Bauhaus his ideas were given thoughtful consideration.

Eugene de Blaas🎨 was born to Austrian parents. His father, Karl (1815-1894), teacher to him and his brother Julius became Professor at the Academy in Vienna and Venice, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
It was in Venice that Eugene de Blaas established himself as the leading painter of Venetian genre.

Olga Nicolaevna Sacharoff was a Spanish artist of Russo-Persian origin associated with naive art and the Surrealist movement.
Olga Sacharoff (also spelled Sakhorova, Zakharova, or Zacharoff) was born in Georgia, which at the time was a part of the Russian Empire.
Her mother was of Persian origin. After studying at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, she visited Rome and traveled to Munich, where she came in contact with the German Expressionist movement.

Gary Lee Price was born in Twin Falls, Idaho. As a child Gary would sit in his room and draw. His ability to create art became his strength and his salvation. 
After graduating from Montpelier High School in Idaho, Price went on to study art at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.

Alexandre Altmann was a Russian-French painter🎨.
Altmann was born to a poor Jewish family in Sobolevka near Kyiv in Ukraine in 1885. At the age of eleven, Altmann ran away to Odessa where he worked variously as a tailor, shoemaker, metalworker and grocery salesman.
The painter Vlas Mikailovich Doroshevich took Altmann under his wing after noticing Altmann’s draughtsmanship and thus encouraged his pursuit of art.

Albert Dubois-Pillet (1846-1890) was a French Neo-impressionist painter and a career army officer. He was instrumental in the founding of the Société des Artistes Indépendants, and was one of the first artists to embrace Pointillism.

Louis-Auguste Veillon was a Swiss painter🎨, noted for his Orientalist works.
After obtaining a degree in Reformed theology in Lausanne, he joined François Diday at his studio in Geneva, where he primarily painted seascapes and mountain scenes from the Bernese Oberland.

Contemporary spanish artist pastelliste, German Aracil was born in Alicante. In 1985 he began his studies at the San Carlos School of Fine Art in Valencia, Spain.

Itzchak Tarkay was an Israeli artist. Tarkay was born in Subotica, on the Yugoslav-Hungarian border.
In 1944, Tarkay and his family were sent to the Mauthausen Concentration Camp, until Allied liberation freed them a year later.
In 1949, his family emigrated to Israel, living in a kibbutz for several years.
