Lucius Rossi (1846-1913) | Genre painter


Lucius Rossi was an Italian🎨 genre painter who has worked and lived in Paris.
Rossi trained at the Academy San Luca in Rome. He was strongly influenced by the Romantic painters, and also the Spanish artist Marià Fortuny🎨.
Rossi left Italy to settle in Paris in 1867, where he began to work as a designer for magazines, including the illustrated British newspaper "The Graphic".

Victor Charreton (1864-1937)


French🎨 Post-Impressionist painter Victor Charreton was one of the founding members of the Show of Autumn (Salon d'Automne), and was made knight of the Legion of Honour🎨 in 1914.
He was a teacher at the Académie Julian in Paris from 1919-1925.
Victor Charreton is famous for his landscapes and still-life paintings, often sharing Impressionist preoccupations whilst trying to capture momentary effects of specific times of day or seasons, at sunset or in a snowy landscape.

William Oxer | Portrait painter

Living in at Hatchlands Park, Surrey where The Cobbe Collection is based, William Oxer was to assist in various projects including an exhibition for the Queens Gallery, Buckingham Palace and large-scale designs for interiors in historic houses such as Goodwood House, Petworth House and Hatchlands Park.

The Crowning with Thorns is a painting by the Italian master🎨 Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio🎨. Executed probably in 1603, it is now located in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.
According to Caravaggio🎨's biographer Giovanni Bellori a Crowning with Thorns was made for Caravaggio's patron Vincenzo Giustiniani, and this painting can be traced convincingly to the Giustiniani collection.

Tamara de Lempicka | The Baroness with a Brush

Born Maria Gorska in Warsaw, Poland (then a sovereign state of Russia), Tamara de Łempicka (1898-1980) has come to be recognized both by her epithet, "Baroness with a Brush", and as icon of the Roaring Twenties.
As the daughter of wealthy parents, she was sent to Lausanne, Switzerland, to attend boarding school as a child - an experience she despised.
During the summer of one of her final years in Lausanne, however, her grandmother took her on a tour of Italy, where she first witnessed the work of Old Masters, an encounter that would ultimately inspire her life-long passion for art.

Abraham Pether was an English🎨 landscape painter, recognised for his skill in depicting moonlit scenes.
He was also a talented musician, inventor, mathematician and philosopher.

Émile Schuffenecker was a French🎨 Post-Impressionist artist, painter, art teacher and art collector.
A friend of Paul Gauguin🎨 and Odilon Redon🎨, and one of the first collectors of works by Vincent van Gogh🎨, Schuffenecker was instrumental in establishing The Volpini exhibition, in 1889.

Alexandre Altmann was a Russian-French painter🎨.
Altmann was born to a poor Jewish family in Sobolevka near Kyiv in Ukraine in 1885. At the age of eleven, Altmann ran away to Odessa where he worked variously as a tailor, shoemaker, metalworker and grocery salesman.
The painter Vlas Mikailovich Doroshevich took Altmann under his wing after noticing Altmann’s draughtsmanship and thus encouraged his pursuit of art.

Albert Dubois-Pillet (1846-1890) was a French Neo-impressionist painter and a career army officer. He was instrumental in the founding of the Société des Artistes Indépendants, and was one of the first artists to embrace Pointillism.
Albert Dubois-Pillet was a career military officer and self-taught amateur painter, closely aligned with the Neo-impressionists. Though not formally trained, various Salons accepted his still lifes for display as early as 1877.

Auguste Veillon (1834-1890)


Louis-Auguste Veillon was a Swiss painter🎨, noted for his Orientalist works.
After obtaining a degree in Reformed theology in Lausanne, he joined François Diday at his studio in Geneva, where he primarily painted seascapes and mountain scenes from the Bernese Oberland.
In 1858, he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

Contemporary spanish artist pastelliste, German Aracil was born in Alicante. In 1985 he began his studies at the San Carlos School of Fine Art in Valencia, Spain.
