Lucius Rossi (1846-1913) | Genre painter

Lucius Rossi was an Italian🎨 genre painter who has worked and lived in Paris.

Rossi trained at the Academy San Luca in Rome. He was strongly influenced by the Romantic painters, and also the Spanish artist Marià Fortuny🎨.

Rossi left Italy to settle in Paris in 1867, where he began to work as a designer for magazines, including the illustrated British newspaper "The Graphic".

Victor Charreton (1864-1937)

French🎨 Post-Impressionist painter Victor Charreton was one of the founding members of the Show of Autumn (Salon d'Automne), and was made knight of the Legion of Honour🎨 in 1914.

He was a teacher at the Académie Julian in Paris from 1919-1925.

Victor Charreton is famous for his landscapes and still-life paintings, often sharing Impressionist preoccupations whilst trying to capture momentary effects of specific times of day or seasons, at sunset or in a snowy landscape.

George Morren (1868-1941)

George Morren was a Belgian painter. It belonged to the impressionist luminist school🎨 of the Belgian🎨 "Art Nouveau".

George Morren, third child of Anna Henrica Van den Wouwer and Arthur Morren, a wealthy merchant of grain in Antwerp, was born in Ekeren, the northern district of Antwerp, during the reign of King Leopold II.

He grew up in a bourgeois and Francophile family. His upbringing included an artistic education.

Born in Moscow, Lapchine studied at the local Stroganov Academy.

Since 1906 he studied in France; in 1924, he moved to Paris.

Since 1925 he exhibited regularly at the major exhibitions "Société des Artistes" and "Salon des Indépendants".

Aykut Aydogdu, 1986

Istanbul-based freelance illustrator Aykut Aydoğdu has developed a unique style creating surreal, enigmatic digital art. He is also known as "aykutmaykut".

His surreal figurative works are mainly concentrated on the dilemmas of the daily life.

William Oxer | Portrait painter

Living in at Hatchlands Park, Surrey where The Cobbe Collection is based, William Oxer was to assist in various projects including an exhibition for the Queens Gallery, Buckingham Palace and large-scale designs for interiors in historic houses such as Goodwood House, Petworth House and Hatchlands Park.

He lived at the latter back in 1996, working with restorer and interiors expert, Alec Cobbe.

It rises at Source-Seine, 30 kilometres northwest of Dijon in northeastern France in the Langres plateau, flowing through Paris and into the English Channel at Le Havre (and Honfleur on the left bank).

Luigi Loir | View of Notre Dame

Luigi Loir (22 December 1845 - 9 February 1916) was a French painter, illustrator and lithographer.

Luigi Loir was born in Goritz, Austria. He was the son of Tancrède Loir François and Thérèse Leban, his wife, respectively valet and housekeeper of the French royal family in exile in Austria.

Installed in the duchy of Parma in 1847, Luigi Loir studied at the school of Fine Arts of Parma in 1853.

Daniel Garber (1880-1958)

Like most impressionist painters, Daniel Garber painted landscapes en plein air, directly from nature.

He exhibited his works nationwide and earned numerous awards🎨, including a gold medal at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition (1915) in San Francisco, California.

He was elected a member of the National Academy of Design in 1913.

Caravaggio | The crowning with thorns, 1603

The Crowning with Thorns is a painting by the Italian master🎨 Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio🎨. Executed probably in 1603, it is now located in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.

According to Caravaggio🎨's biographer Giovanni Bellori a Crowning with Thorns was made for Caravaggio's patron Vincenzo Giustiniani, and this painting can be traced convincingly to the Giustiniani collection.

Claude Monet | Spring (Fruit Trees in Bloom) 1873

Claude Monet made this work in the vicinity of his home in Argenteuil, a village on the Seine northwest of Paris that was a favorite gathering place of the Impressionists.

Although the scene has previously been called Plum Blossoms and Apples Trees in Bloom, the type of tree cannot be determined from the flurry of white buds evoked by the artist.

Tamara de Lempicka | The Baroness with a Brush

Born Maria Gorska in Warsaw, Poland (then a sovereign state of Russia), Tamara de Łempicka (1898-1980) has come to be recognized both by her epithet, "Baroness with a Brush", and as icon of the Roaring Twenties.

As the daughter of wealthy parents, she was sent to Lausanne, Switzerland, to attend boarding school as a child - an experience she despised.

During the summer of one of her final years in Lausanne, however, her grandmother took her on a tour of Italy, where she first witnessed the work of Old Masters, an encounter that would ultimately inspire her life-long passion for art.

Abraham Pether (1756-1812)

Abraham Pether was an English🎨 landscape painter, recognised for his skill in depicting moonlit scenes.

He was also a talented musician, inventor, mathematician and philosopher.

He painted river and mountain scenery, with classical buildings, in a pleasing though artificial style, somewhat resembling that of Richard Wilson; but his reputation rests on his moonlight subjects, which attracted much admiration, and earned for him the sobriquet of "Moonlight" Pether.

Gleizes was a founding member of the Section d'Or group of artists.

He was also a member of Der Sturm, and his many theoretical writings were originally most appreciated in Germany, where especially at the Bauhaus his ideas were given thoughtful consideration.

It was in Venice that Eugene de Blaas established himself as the leading painter of Venetian genre.

The golden Italian climate and the magnificent old stone facades had made Venice an essential stop on the Grand Tour since the early eighteenth century.

Olga Sacharoff (1889-1967)

Olga Sacharoff (also spelled Sakhorova, Zakharova, or Zacharoff) was born in Georgia, which at the time was a part of the Russian Empire.

Her mother was of Persian origin. After studying at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, she visited Rome and traveled to Munich, where she came in contact with the German Expressionist movement.

Edmund Greacen (1876-1949)

Edmund William Greacen was an American🎨 Impressionist painter. His active career extended from 1905-1935, during which he created many colorful works in oil on canvas and board.

One of his works, a reproduction of which is at the Smithsonian Institution, was awarded the Salmagundi Club's Samuel T. Shaw Prize🎨 in 1922.

Kal Gajoum, 1968

So when Vincent arrived in the village, he went to see Daubigny's home and garden as soon as he could. This is Van Gogh's first painting of the garden. He later made two larger ones on canvas.

Charles Courtney Curran (1861-1942)

Armand Guillaumin | Figure painting

He also worked for a French government railway before studying at the Académie Suisse in 1861.

There, he met Paul Cézanne🎨 and Camille Pissarro🎨 with whom he maintained lifelong friendships. While he never achieved the stature of these two, his influence on their work was significant.

Claude Emile Schuffenecker (1851-1934)

Émile Schuffenecker was a French🎨 Post-Impressionist artist, painter, art teacher and art collector.

A friend of Paul Gauguin🎨 and Odilon Redon🎨, and one of the first collectors of works by Vincent van Gogh🎨, Schuffenecker was instrumental in establishing The Volpini exhibition, in 1889.

His own work, however, tends to have been neglected since his death - and even worse, recent season campaigns in the media have reactivated resentments virulent since the late 1920s, when Schuffenecker was suspected to have imitated the work of other contemporary artists, among them, Van Gogh.

Albert Henry Fullwood (1863-1930)

Fullwood was the Australian official war artist to the 5th Division in the World War I.

Alexandre Altmann (1885-1950)

Alexandre Altmann was a Russian-French painter🎨.

Altmann was born to a poor Jewish family in Sobolevka near Kyiv in Ukraine in 1885. At the age of eleven, Altmann ran away to Odessa where he worked variously as a tailor, shoemaker, metalworker and grocery salesman.

The painter Vlas Mikailovich Doroshevich took Altmann under his wing after noticing Altmann’s draughtsmanship and thus encouraged his pursuit of art.

Albert Dubois-Pillet | Neo-impressionist painter

Albert Dubois-Pillet (1846-1890) was a French Neo-impressionist painter and a career army officer. He was instrumental in the founding of the Société des Artistes Indépendants, and was one of the first artists to embrace Pointillism.

Albert Dubois-Pillet was a career military officer and self-taught amateur painter, closely aligned with the Neo-impressionists. Though not formally trained, various Salons accepted his still lifes for display as early as 1877.

Auguste Veillon (1834-1890)

Louis-Auguste Veillon was a Swiss painter🎨, noted for his Orientalist works.

After obtaining a degree in Reformed theology in Lausanne, he joined François Diday at his studio in Geneva, where he primarily painted seascapes and mountain scenes from the Bernese Oberland.

In 1858, he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

While in Paris, he spent a considerable amount of time in the Louvre, copying the works of the masters, especially the 17th-century Dutch masters and the work of Claude Lorrain🎨.

German Aracil, 1965

Contemporary spanish artist pastelliste, German Aracil was born in Alicante. In 1985 he began his studies at the San Carlos School of Fine Art in Valencia, Spain.

Aracil's first one-man show was held in his home town of Alicante, followed in 1990 by exhibitions in New York's Liz Liberatore Gallery. Two years later he took part in the Art Miami International Art Fair.
